A charge to slow down and take in the fall colors

Fall has been my favorite time of year for most of my life! My birthday is in the Fall, I love the changing colors in nature, and the cooler temperatures...especially after the hot, miserable, and smokey summer we had around here. The change of pace, precipitation, and dropping temps were welcomed warmly, at least by me!

Fall has naturally become a time of reflecting on the year and counting our blessings! I'm a sucker for a pumpkin spice latte (or really anything pumpkin spice flavored) and getting cozy by a fire with a good book while wearing sweats and fuzzy slippers or socks of some sort.

I also like to bake in the fall. Muffins, pies, crisps, cakes, zucchini or banana bread, or brownies. I don't always have time, but I go out of my way to create time this time of year for those kinds of things! I love the crispness to the air that let's you know winter is coming but not quite here.

I love lighting candles that have hints of autumn fragrance like cinnamon, cider, and pumpkin and putting up colorful decor with oranges, yellows and reds that include little phrases to remind you to be grateful and cherish time with your family and friends by gathering together.

The thing I love most about fall is that I pretty much have an involuntary response to it's arrival that almost forces me to slow down and take in the moment I'm currently experiencing! I know the vibrant colors of the season fade fairly quickly, and if I hurry through my day I'm at risk for missing out on some of the joy it brings until it comes around again next year!

So, here is my charge to you as we approach what can be one of the busiest seasons of the year as the holidays draw near...take in a big breath of the crisp fall air, go rake up a big pile of colorful leaves just to jump in it with your kids, light a candle, snuggle up with a good book, make or buy your favorite fall beverage or tasty treat, and simplify your life as much as you can while you can! It may make all the difference to your well-being and those you treasure the most in life!
